Former Akuressa PS Chairman’s rape case
HC orders CPA to produce video tape as evidence

Colombo High Court Judge, Manilal Waidyatillake, yesterday ordered the Director of the Child Protection Authority to take steps to display in Court, the video tapes pertaining to evidence in a child abuse case.


The accused is Saman Liyanage Sunil, former Chairman of Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha. He is charged with the abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl at a hotel. The parents of the victim had been employed under the accused during the time relevant to this event.


The trial is fixed for October 24, 2016. The video tapes on evidence will be displayed on that date.


The first two witnesses were notified to be present in court, on that day.


The date of the offence had been between May 23, 2012 and July 2, 2012 at Akuressa.


The accused has been indicted by the Attorney General, under the provisions of the Penal Code.


President’s Counsel, Anil Silva appeared for the accused.
