Dilan sheds tears for Sajith

The UNP would face a split soon as Primer Wickremesinghe was sidelining the party’s Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and his backers, the SLFP media spokesman, State Minister of Highways Dilan Perera hinted yesterday.

He told the media in Colombo that the PM was giving top positions within the party to Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake at the expense of Premadasa.

The TNA and the EPDP were also likely to suffer splits. An SLMC heavyweight was trying to leave the party, Perera stressed.

Minister Perera said that everyone was talking about the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and it was not the first time the UPFA coalition partners were holding separate rallies or May Day marches. Even at the Hyde Park rally, SLFP members did not criticize their party but the government.

He stressed that since the return of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa there were issues among the Joint Opposition (JO) members as they did not like to work with him. The younger sibling had left for the US within 24 hours of the announcement of the defeat of President Rajapaksa at the last presidential election. Now it was that person that was making statements regarding the formation of a new party while others were attempting to get the two leaders together.

Parliamentarians Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Kumara Welgama and Mahindananda Aluthgamage had agreed to hold a single May Day rally in Galle as the members of the SLFP May Day rally committee. But, later they had changed their position under pressure from various quarters, Minister Perera said.
