Special High Court Commissioner Irangani Perera yesterday fixed for trial on June 27, 2016, the indictment filed in respect of the LTTE attempt on the life of the former Secretary Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Five persons have been indicted. Only four have been arrested so far.

The LTTE suicide bomber attacked the motorcade in which Rajapaksa travelled on December, 2006 at Piththala Junction, Colombo 3.

Counsel for Rajapaksa told the court that Rajapaksa was in America and needed another date on which he could give evidence.

Counsel K.V. Thavarasa, who appeared for the accused said that his clients had been in remand custody for over nine years. An early date should therefore be given, he said.
