Constitutional Assembly sub-committees appointed

Members of the sub committees of the Constitutional Assembly were appointed when the Assembly met yesterday for its second day at 9.30 am with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya presiding.


The Leader of the House and University Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella informed the House that Uresha Fernando had been appointed the additional secretary of the Constitutional Assembly. 


The Leader of the House also announced members of six sub committees namely the "Fundamental Rights, Judiciary, Finance, Public Service, Law and Order, Centre-Periphery".


Mahinda Samarasinghe was appointed the Chairman of the Fundamental Rights Sub Committee. Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Anuradha Jayaratne, Pavitra Wanniarachchi, Vijitha Herath, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Sritharan, Aravinda Kumar, Jayampathi Wickramaratne and Muditha Wijemanna were appointed as its members. 


Rauf Hakeem was appointed the chairman of the Judiciary Sub Committee. Its other members are Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, S B Dissnayake, Thalatha Athukorala, Chandima Weerakkody, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Sriyani Wijewickrama, M. Sumanthiran, Udaya Gammanpila, Nalinda Jayathissa, Shanthi Sri Skandarajah. 


Bandula Gunawardena was appointed the chairman of the Finance Sub Committe. Sarath Amunugama, V.A. Radakrishna, Anoma Gamage, Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne, Muttu Shivalingam, Keheliya Rambukwella, E. Sarawanapavan and Tharaka Balasuriya were appointed as its members.


Sagala Ratnayake was appointed the chairman of the Law and Order Sub Committee, while W.D.J. Seneviratne, Palani Digambaran, Ameer Ali, Ajith Perera, Douglas Devananada, Anura Dissanayake, M.S. Thawfeek, Mavei Senadhirajah, Namal Rajapaksa and Shehan Semasinghe were appointed as its members.


Karunaratne Paranavithana was appointed the chairman of the Public Service Sub Committee. Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Nihal Galappatti, J C Alawathuwala, Abdul Mahroof, Ramesh Pathirana, Hema Kumara, Mujuber Rahuman, Harshana Rajakaruna and Gnanamoorthi Srineshan were appointed as its other members.


Dilan Perera was appointed the chairman of the Centre-Periphery Sub Committee while H.M.M. Haris, Dullas Alahapperuma, Bimal Ratnayake, Widura Wickramanayake, Maiwan Thilakaraj, Sarath Perera, S.M. Marikkar, Rohini Kumarii Wijeratne, and Wijepala Hettiarachchi were appointed as members to the subcommittee.
