His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo, expressing his shock and concern over the disastrous situation that has arisen said, "I am deeply shocked and concerned that many people have to face disastrous situations including landslides and flooding due to the prevailing extreme weather conditions. I am sad to observe that some have lost their lives, others are still missing and many others have lost their homes and even their means of livelihood. Many people have become refugees in camps and in temporary shelters without proper food, clothing and other facilities"

"I offer my sincere prayers for all of them and strongly urge all the faithful of our churches to continue to pray for them and to help them in whatever way possible," Cardinal Malcolm further said.
