Robbers who shot 12-year-old during robbery still at large

The Galnewa police have so far failed to arrest four armed men, who shot and injured a 12-year-old girl during an abortive robbery at the victim's house in the same police area on May 28.

The girl being treated at the Anuradhapura hospital is out of danger as she is recovering and she is able to walk now.

Her right leg had been injuredbyS two bullets that had been fired through an upper floor door, where she had been hiding with her parents as the robbers broke into their house.

Four police teams had been deployed to arrest the suspects who had attempted to rob the businessman's house around 1.40 a.m. on that day after climbing on to the upper floor of the house with the aide of the roof of the businessman's van parked near the house.

The gunmen had arrived at the house of the victim in a car. The robbers had fired and fled the scene after the businessman switched on the lights of the house hearing a sound of a crow bar falling to the floor.

The crowbar had been placed to lock the access door to the first floor.
