By Cyril Wimalasurende

KANDY: Crocodiles in Menik Ganga would be captured and released into the Yala National Park to ensure the safety of the pilgrims who thronged Kataragama during the annual Esala Perahera of Maha Devale of Ruhuna, Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devale D. P. Kumarage said in Kandy on Sunday.

That measure had become essential as the crocodiles devotees were scared of bathing in Menik Ganga, Kumarage said.

Some crocodiles had already been captured and released to the national park, he said.

The Basnayaka Nilame said that arrangement had been made to provide all required facilities to the pilgrims during the Perahera commencing on July 5 and ending with the water-cutting ceremony and day perahera on July 20.
