Kandy traders agree to hartal on June 29 against VAT

KANDY – Traders of Kandy at a largely attended meeting on Friday 24 unanimously decided to close their businesses next Wednesday (29) as a mark of protest against the VAT increase.


The meeting was held at Sampath Hall, the headquarters of the Kandy Sinhala Velanda Peramuna.


Representatives of the Tamil and Muslim Traders Organisations were present at the meeting.


The traders also decided as a prelude to the shutting down of business premises on Wednesday to put up black flags at the business premises from June 27.


On June 29 shops and eateries and other business premises inclusive of the Kandy Central Market will be closed form 10.00 a.m.


After closing down business premises the traders will attend a meeting at Goorge E. de Silva Park at Dalada Veediya.
