Courts to be moved against delay in holding LG polls

By Ranil Dharmasena

PAFFREL (People’s Action For Free and Fair Elections) has decided to resort to legal action against the government over its failure to hold the local government elections.

Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said different factions affiliated to the government were announcing different dates for the local government elections which continued to be postponed.

"Although the local government minister and the election commission have been informed in writing of the need to hold the LG polls, so far they have failed to do the needful and, therefore, the PAFFREL will resort to legal action," he said.

TPAFFREL will cite Local Government Minister, Local Government and Provincial Council Ministry and National Elections Commission as respondents.
