President’s Trophy final rescheduled

Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) yesterday confirmed that the President’s Trophy knockout rugby tournament final will be held at the Race Course International Rugby Stadium on July the 13th. The decision has been taken after a meeting with the Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam on Friday.

Isipathana College and Royal College were scheduled to play the final match on the 9th of July at Royal Sports Complex in Reid Avenue, but Isipathana lodged a protest insisting on the home advantage Royal would gain.

Later, both parties agreed to play the game at a neutral venue. However, Isipathana raised objections to play the game on the 16th of July.

Sri Lanka under-18 side will be touring Hong Kong from the 21st July and the practices are scheduled to start from the 13th of July. Had the game continued on the rescheduled date, players from both schools would have missed out on an opportunity to represent the Junior National team.

After much deliberation, both teams have agreed to play on the 13th July at Race Course, SLSRFA secretary, Dencil Darling told ‘Sunday Island.’
