Forty differently abled undergrads get schols from grieving father

KANDY – Nearly 40 differently-abled undergraduates of the University of Peradeniya recently received scholarships from a father who lost his differently abled young son a year ago.

The grieving father is Attorney-at-Law and planter Ganesh Velautham.

Ganesh Velautham, who has formed an organisation titled "Shivan Foundation" in memory of his son is helping the disabled sons and daughters of others.

The undergraduates who received the first instalment of the scholarship are reading for degrees in different disciplines at the University of Peradeniya.

Vice-chancellor professor Upul B. Dissanayake, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lakshman Wijeweera, Dr. Abey Ratnayake public relations officer of the University G. K. Godamunne, Venerable Udawatte Wimalabuddhi and Ven. Galle Dhamminda Theras were present on the occasion.
