President Maithripala Sirisena has said that if Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton wins the forthcoming US presidential polls, she will be able to rule the world along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and recently appointed British Premier Theresa May.

President Maithripala Sirisena said that there was a close fight between former Secretary of State Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The President was addressing the annual prize giving of St. Paul’s Milagiriya on Thursday (July 28).

Emphasising the pivotal importance of the role played by women both here and abroad, in every sphere, President Sirisena commended Merkel style of ruling the country, particularly her response to the Syrian refugee crisis.

The President briefly discussed the circumstances under which Merkel had accepted million people who had fled the on-going war in Syria in spite of strong objections from some Germans.

President Sirisena also referred to Theresa May’s emergence as David Cameron’s successor against the backdrop of the Brexit. (SF)
