UPFA General Secretary and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday challenged National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya Leader Udaya Gammanpila to go it alone at the forthcoming elections and win at least a single seat.

Minister Amaraweera said both Weerawansa and Gammanpila had survived with the help of SLFP votes as they did not have any vote base. "They ride the SLFP piggyback for their political survival. They are nothing but fleas and leeches living off the SLFP.

"Have they done anything for the benefit of SLFP or the general public after securing parliament seats from SLFP votes? What they did was to criticise the SLFP as if they had won those seats themselves. It was they who antagonised the UN and the international community with the Mahinda Rajapaksa government by staging hunger strikes opposite the UN office. They paved the way for the defeat of that government. They made the Rajapaksa government an enemy of 162 nations. SLFP members are well aware of their conduct. Unfortunately, some leaders are still unable to see through their wiles."
