NFF asks govt to hold elections if it is not scared of losing

The National Freedom Front yesterday called on the government to hold local government elections without resorting to dilatory tactics.

The government does not hold elections for it knows there is public displeasure and it will certainly lose. The government seems to have decided to rely on measures of diversion such as arresting political opponents on false charges and giving huge publicity to those arrests, NFF spokesman former MP Mohamed Muzammil said yesterday.

Addressing a press conference at party head office at Battaramulla, Muzammil said: "The government thinks that if it continues to arrest the members of the Opposition it can appeae the irate public. Thus they keep arresting opposition members. For example, MP Namal Rajapaksa was taken into custody yesterday again. Unfortunately, JVP’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake is supporting Wickremeisinghe-Sirisena regime.
