Exorcist remanded for abusing schoolgirls

KANDY – A sixty-five-year-old exorcist of Medamahanuwara in Udadumbara was arrested by the Children’s and Women’s Bureau of the Kandy police headquarters for allegedly sexually abusing underage schoolgirls in the area.


The suspect had been abusing girls aged 12-14, threatening them that he would destroy them and their family members if they disclosed abuse.


The latest victims were four schoolgirls.


The arrest of the charmer Nallatambi by the Children’s and Women’s Bureau of the Kandy police was made on a tip-off received by senior DIG, Lalith Jayasinghe.


The operation was conducted by the OIC Children’s and Women’s Bureau of Kandy police, Chief Inspector Janaki Seneviratne and her team on the directions of DIG, Mahinda Ekanayake and Kandy senior S. P. Edmond Mahendra.


Later on Saturday (15) the suspect exorcist Nallathambi was produced before the Magistrate of Teldeniya, who remanded the suspect till October 26.


The Magistrate also ordered the police to have the victims examined by a Judicial Medical Officer and to submit the medical reports to his court.
