By Chitra Weerarathne

The Attorney General yesterday told the Supreme Court that he had received the investigation report prepared by the Financial Crime Investigation Division, Pertaining to a complaint against UPFA Kalutara District Parliamentarian Kumara Welgama.

The report was being perused by the AG. Senior State Counsel Madawa Tennakoon, appeared for the AG. The FCID has complained to the Magistrate that Welgama as the Minister of Transport Service abused public funds in procuring equipment for the SLTB. Consequently Welgama filed a fundamental rights violation petition in the Supreme Court, complaining that the FCID was likely to unduly arrest him, and violate his personal liberty. This petition was called before the court yesterday. President’s Counsel, Gamini Marapana appeared with Nalin Marapana, for Welgama.

The Petition will be next called before the Supreme Court on February 9, 2017.
