Thalatha confident govt. won’t fall

Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorale yesterday said that the incumbent administration couldn’t be defeated till 2020 though certain elements dreamt of the fall of the unity government.

Addressing a political meeting in Nivithigala, Ratnapura, the Minister said whether the unity government contested the election scheduled for 2020 as a single party or as a coalition would be decided at that particular time.

"This government will never sell assets of the country contrary to claims being made by some parties."

Although a colossal amount of money was spent on constructing the Mattala airport it was not upto the required standards; only Fly Dubai flights land there, she said.

"The foreign employment Ministry is planning to send employees to West Asia from the Mattala airport," she said.

"The previous government built a port where ships do not come. But when this government tries to correct the situation those in the Opposition say we are attempting to sell our assets."

She said the government was developing the country in a sustainable manner though cynics asked whether there had been development. "We are not greedy for power or money and the same goes for our party members."
