Medical administrators leap to defence of Health Minister’s wife

Apropos our front-page news item headlined ‘Health Minister’s wife challenges bid to block her seeking top post’ in yesterday’s edition, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has sent us the following response: "There is absolutely no basis for the report. It was fabricated and aimed at causing friction."

Member of the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka, Dr. Priyantha Atapattu issued the following statement: "We are dismayed by seeing this article published in The Island newspaper on 06th January 2017. Dr. Sujatha Senarathne is the first Dental Surgeon to take up Medical Administration, being in the first batch of MSc (Medical Administration) course and also has the MD in Medical Administration. She is the first Dental

Surgeon to become a Consultant in Medical Administration. She is fully qualified to hold the post of President of the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka.

During her tenure as a Medical Administrator she served as the Director (Dental Institute), Deputy Director and the Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Deputy Director and later the Acting Director of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the Additional Secretory (Public Health Services) of Ministry of Health. She has contributed vastly to the enhancement of the field of Medical Administration as a member of the Board of Study in Medical Administration, a Module Advisor for Hospital Management and also an examiner for MSc in Medical Administration.

She was an Assistant Secretary of the College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka and continuously a Council Member of the College. She has contributed to the capacity building of Medical Administration in many dimensions. She has supported in many ways to streamline the appointments of the Senior Administrative and Deputy Administrative Grade Medical Officers.

Considering her continuous support and dedication towards the field of Medical Administration, a group of more than 40 Medical Administrators visited her residence and earnestly requested her to apply for the post of President — elect of the college and her application was proposed by the current President — elect of the college and seconded by the current Secretary of the College.

The College of Medical Administrators of Sri Lanka is an academic body with no political agenda. We express our disappointment of the false propaganda. that is being disseminated to tarnish the image of the College and Medical Administrators.
