The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday warned that the country’s medical students would refrain from going in for lectures calling upon the government to stop new enrolment at the Malabe Private Medical College.
GMOA Secretary Dr Naveen de Zoysa said the students were scheduled to stage a lecture boycott on Friday (13) to pressure the government to stop new enrolments for Medicine at Malabe.
Unless the government heeded their demand they would be compelled to resort to continuous protests from next Monday (16).
He warned that the student unions would be joined by university lecturers and other professionals.
Dr De Zoysa said his union had urged the government during the past few years to take over the Malabe (South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine) and improve its quality.
