Gampaha mandarins taken to court for dumping garbage near schools, privenasJanuary 11, 2017, 9:49 pm

The Court of Appeal yesterday, issued notice returnable on Feb. 21, on the Municipal Commissioner of Gampaha and four other respondents, pertaining to a writ application filed by Ven. Karumevan Piyasara Thera of Bodhimaramaya, Veyangoda and several other petitioners.
They have complained of unhygienic garbage disposal at Damabagamara, Veyangoda in close proximity to schools and pirivenas.
Among the respondents are the Central Environmental Authority, the Municipal Commissioner Gampaha and the District Secretary of Gampaha.
The petitioners want this unhygienic practice prohibited by the court.
Counsel Ravindranath Dabare, appeared for the petitioner.
The Bench comprised Justice Vijith Malalgoda (President) and Justice S. Thurairajah.
