AG’s appeal for enhanced punishment for killers of Khuram Shaikah

CA allows parties time to file written submissions

The Court of Appeal has allowed parties time till April 6 to file written submissions, pertaining to the appeal filed by the Attorney General seeking to enhance the sentence of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder imposed by the Colombo High court on Chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Sampath Chandrapushpa Vidanapathirane and five other accused indicted in respect of the murder of Khuram  Sheikah Zaman, a British National and sexual assault on his Russian girlfriend Victoria Alexandrovna at the Nature Hotel, Tangalle on December 26, 2012.

Time for written submission was allowed for the accused appellants who had appealed against the 20 year rigorous imprisonment imposed by the High Courts.

President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa appeared with Indika Girahagama and M.C. Saanthirarachchi for Vidanapathirana, the third accused appellant Amila Palliyaguru appeared for the fourth accused appellant Chathuranga.

State Counsel Maheshika Silva appeared for the Attorney General.

The Bench comprised Justice Deepali Wijesundera and Justice Lalith Jayasooriya.
