A world first: postmen to deliver mobile phone reloads

Described as a world first, Sri Lanka Post and Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel launched a novel concept of distributing pre paid peload to Mobitel SMART pre paid customers at their door step, through postmen across 25 districts in the country.


Since the inception of the integration work in November 2009, Sri Lanka Post with the strength of 7,750 registered Postmen and its ability to reach nearly 4.5 million households across the Island, is now equipped to sell Mobitel SMART Reload at the comfort of the consumers home. Also part of this unique service enables Mobitel Uphara, post paid and M3 broadband bill payments over 640 Post offices and 3500 Sub Post offices will offer Mobitel SMART Reload.


The districts where a reload can be obtained through Postmen are Puttalam, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Colombo, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale, Polonnaruwa, Anurdhapura, Trincomale, Batticaloa, Nuwareliya, Badulla, Ampara, Monaragala, Kaluthara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara and Hambantota. This service will be available in the Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar district shortly.


Minister of Post Jeewan Kumaratunga said, "Sri Lanka Post plans to introduce over 15 new services through its Post offices, Sub Post offices and Post Men with the aim of modernizing and ensuring that Postal staff remain the most friendly government servant. The launch of the service to enable purchase of Pre Paid Reload and payment of Post Paid bills as a result of the partnership between Sri Lanka Post and Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel is one such initiative."


Speaking on the service Chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom and Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Nimal Welgama, "We are honored to have this partnership evolve to this level. We have placed our customers at the center of all our initiatives, in line with our brand promise of ‘We Care, Always’.
