Field Marshal says no withdrawal of security forces from North

By Norman Palihawadana

Former war winning army commander and current Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka yesterday said that the government would not dance to the tune of every Tom, Dick and Harry; it would not withdraw the security forces stationed in the north.

Fonseka said: "We will not give in to pressure from Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran."

Addressing the media at the Kiribathgoda hospital, Fonseka said that Wigneswaran was making a vain attempt to urge the government to withdraw forces from the North.

Answering a query on the police patrol being shot at in Kilinochchi on Victory Day, the former Army Commander said similar incidents had taken place in Kalutara and Piliyandala as well and it was a random incident.

He said the media had looked at the Kilinochchi incident from a different angle.
