Flt. Sgt killed in flood relief op promoted

Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy has posthumously promoted late Flight Sergeant Y. M.S. Yaparathna, the fire fighter who succumbed to his injuries at the Karapitiya hospital, where he was rushed after a fall from the helicopter during rescue operations in the Neluwa Area, to the rank of Warrant Officer. 


Warrant Officer Yaparathna enlisted in the Sri Lanka Air Force


on January19, 2001 and received his basic training at CTS Diyathalawa and advance training at SLAF TTS, Ekala. He had served at SLAF Base Katunayaka, SLAF Base Anuradhapura and SLAF Base Ratmalana, SLAF Station Colombo, SLAF Station Baticaloa, SLAF Station Iranamadu and SLAF Trade Training School as a reputed fire and rescue operator.


He leaves his Wife K. Lakmali and his only son Lakshan.


His remains are lying at his residence at 303/5, Nedagamuwa West, Kotugoda. His funeral will take place today (29).
