Nimal calls for pruning perks to help victims

By M.A. Premaratne

Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on Sunday said that the Ministers and Parliamentarians should forego the privileges enjoyed by them and help those affected by the natural disasters.

On a visit to oversee the Disaster Management operations in Bulathsinhala, the Minister said not only the politicians, but even the bureaucrats should cut down on their perks in order to assist the flood victims.

Minister de Silva said all affected families had been provided with dry rations and their wells and schools cleaned. The electricity supply had been restored in the disaster stricken areas, he said.

The Minister expressed his views at the Disaster Management Committee meeting held at the Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat.
