CPC Governor gets tough

A special investigation had been launched on the orders of the Central Province Governor into how 380 students had been admitted to ten schools in Kandy for Grade one during the midyear.

Governor Niluka Ekanayake told ‘The Island’ that she had given specific instructions verbaly as well as in writing to the CPC to inform her prior to taking such decisions.

They schools are St.Sylvesters, Vidyartha, Swarnamali Balika, Sarasavi Uyana, Sithadevi Balika,Vihara Maha Devi Balika, Hemamali Balika, Mahanama, D.S.Senanayake and St.Anthoney’s Balika.

The number admitted to St.Sylvester’s College is 39.

The letters of admission had been signed by Provincial Education Secretary P. B. Wijeratne.

When inquired he had said children who couldn’t find a school yet were admitted to those schools according to the circular.
