The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has commenced probing about 20 of its officials attached to the Employees’ Provident Fund Department for their alleged involvement in the Treasury bond scams.

As part of these investigations, the CBSL had already sent them show-cause letters, sources said.

Top CBSL sources said those officials had been asked to respond by July 20 and some of those who received the letters had written back seeking additional time.

Most of the officials allegedly involved in the bond scams had been transferred to other departments within the bank, sources said.

Senior Assistant Director Saman Kumara has been interdicted in this connection.

Some of the officials under a cloud have had links to Perpetual Treasuries company accused of causing losses running to billions of rupees to the state and the EPF through the alleged bond scams, according to sources.
