Mervyn: Present crisis due to wrath of gods

by Cyril Wimalasurendre

KANDY – Former Minister Mervyn Silva, calling on the Mahanayake Theras of Malwatta and Asigirya on Monday (17), said the present crisis situation in the country was due to the wrath of gods.

The gods observed the situation in Sri Lanka on a daily basis and reported it to Sakra, who took necessary action , Silva told the Most Venerable Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Tibatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera.

The situation would take a turn for the worse unless appropriate action was taken before October, Mervyn Silva cautioned.

Silva urged both prelates of Malwatte and Asgiriya to take the initiative to form a supreme Council of the Sangha above the government.

That council would be able to bring the situation under control, the former minister said.

Addressing the media after calling on the prelates former minister Silva said the Supreme Sangha Council comprising the Mahanayake Theras would be able to guide the rulers along the correct path.

Shadows of Prabhakaran were visible but others were being arrested and remanded, he said.

The former Minister said he had founded a political party called ‘Janatha Paksaya’ (People’s Party). It would contest all elections, he said, adding that he was awaiting its registration with the Elections Department.

He said he would be able to work with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa if the latter came back to power. The only problem was that Rajapaksa was surrounded with undesirables, he said.

Mahinda Rajapaksa was a leader who had saved the country from LTTE terrorism, Silva said.

Silva also called on the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratna Mahanayaka Thera of Asgiriya and the Anunayake Theras of Malwatte and Asgiriya temples.
