Thalatha slams Land Reform Commission for fraud, corruption

Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorale recently flayed the Land Reform Commission as a dormant institution full of fraud and corruption.


Addressing a political meeting at the Ratnapura new town hall she said in future all those who didn’t possess deeds for the lands they had and lived on for over two or three generations would be issued with deeds.


She said Housing Minister Sajith Premadasa had visited the area and provided housing loans to 600 people in the District, 200 self-employment tool kits had also been presented. Athukorale said that during the previous government there had been so many programmes, but they had not benefited the public.


The Land Reform Commission had earned notoriety as a state institution which misled people, the minister said.


She alleged that a field officer in the Nivitigala electorate,with the help of surveyors, blocked out some state lands and sold them for Rs. 2,000 each.
