by Shyam Nuwan Ganewatta

The Attorney General’s Department is scheduled to brief IGP Pujith Jayasundara on Monday on the need to commence a separate investigation into Perpetual Treasuries Ltd providing false information to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry and erasing vital data from its voice logger system.

The AG’s Department sources said the Criminal Investigation Department would commence a separate investigation. They said the CID would take Chief Dealer of the Company, Nuwan Salgado into custody to probe his involvement in issuing orders for deleting data from the voice logger system of the company.

According to a statement made at the Presidential Commission by Information Technology Division head of the PTL, Sachith Devathantri last Thursday it was Salgado who ordered the deletion of data.

Senior Additional Solicitor General Dappula de Livera and Additional Solicitor General Yasantha Kodagoda pointed out to the commission that the deletion of data pertaining to an investigation being conducted by a Presidential Commission amounted to a crime and legal action should be instituted against those responsible.

Accordingly, the AG is scheduled to give instructions to the IGP to commence a separate investigation into data tampering and provision of false information to the commission.
