CWC to go it alone at LG elections

KANDY – The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) may contest the forthcoming local government elections independently under the Cock Symbol.

Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Leader Arumugam Thondaman MP told a meeting at Samimale near Maskeliya on Tuesday (12) that his team would contest the local elections independently under the Symbol of the Cock.

By doing so it would be able test the strength of the different groups in the up-country plantation sector, parliamentarian and former Minister of the previous government said at the opening of the Hindu Cultural Centre in Fairlone Estate, Samimale.

When the different groups contested the elections independently they could realise with whom the plantation sector community stood, Thondaman said.

After the elections, the CWC will decide whether it would support the government or the Opposition, the CWC General Secretary told the meeting.

He continued to say that despite the fact that he was not with the present government he remained with the people and did all that he was able to do on their behalf.
