Star batsman Kumar Sangakkara smashed a fine 164 for Surrey having returned to England from the Caribbean Premier League just a few days ago.

In an effort to boost Surrey’s County Championship bid, star batsman Kumar Sangakkara smashed a sensational 164 to help his team to post a mammoth 592 all out at The Oval yesterday.

Surrey are currently placed third in the points table of the County Championship and have got two more games against Somerset and Lancashire. Essex are the table leaders.

Sangakkara was in the West Indies last week representing Jamaica in the Caribbean Premier League and it didn’t’ require him much time to revert back to First Class cricket from T-20 mode.

The former Sri Lankan captained faced 187 deliveries and hit 21 fours and three sixes. He shared a 253 run stand for the fourth wicket with wicketkeeper Ben Foakes (110).

Sangakkara’s three year deal with Surrey comes to an end this season, his last in First Class cricket.

He was in prolific form for the English county before traveling to West Indies for the CPL. He was the first batsman to complete 1000 runs this summer having achieved the feat only in his 11th innings.
