Taxes on dubbed foreign films, teledramas hiked

In keeping with a budget proposal to protect the local film, teledrama and advertising industries, the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to increase taxes on foreign productions dubbed in Sinhala and Tamil and also commercials produced abroad.


Co-Cabinet Spokesman and Lands and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka told the Post Cabinet Press Conference at the Information Department on Wednesday said that the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe administration was committed to protecting local artistes and Tuesday’s decision to endorse a range of taxes up to a maximum of Rs. 350,000 from the current Rs. 90,000, was aimed at achieving that objective.
