Former Minister Milroy contesting to be PS member

Former SLFP Minister Milroy Fernando is contesting upcoming elections to the Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha. He said he had been a parliamentarian for 27-years and he was good enough to be elected to a local government body.


Fernando entered politics in 1989 and was elected to Parliament. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Fisheries in 1991 and Social and Fishing Community Housing Minister in 2000. In 2004, Fernando was appointed Christian and Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Subsequently, he received the non-Cabinet portfolios of Plantation Industries and Rural Economic Development. In 2010 he was appointed the Re-settlement Minister. In addition, he held several other posts.


His nephew Susantha Fernando, who was the Chairman of the Wennapuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, is contesting the forthcoming local government elections on the ticket of the Sri lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) backed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Milroy Fernando is supporting President Maithripala Sirisena.


Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Roshan Nilantha Fernando is supporting Mahinda Rajapaksa and UNP member Sajeeva Fernando is supporting Maithripala Sirisena.
