Uma Oya : Rent allowance to be continued for relocated people

*Fine for violation of Underground Water Project regulations increased

People who were relocated due to the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project, would continue to receive a rent allowance for a further six months, the government said yesterday.


Co -Cabinet Spokesman and Lands and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathillake addressing the Post Cabinet Media Briefing at the Information Department , said that the Cabinet on Tuesday, had decided that the provision of rent should be continued, until such time alternative lands were allocated for those who had been displaced.


Among the other decisions taken, he noted was to increase the fine for disregarding regulations applicable to Sustainable Underground Water Projects.
