‘Govt. trying to divert attention of people away from its bond scam’

by Cyril Wimalasurendre

KANDY – Kandy District Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama (Joint Opposition) told a media conference on Wednesday (10) afternoon that the government was calling for a probe into the alleged irregularities at the Central Bank during the Rajapaksa administration in order to distract public attention from the Central Bank’s massive bond scam to the tune of Rs. 11,000 million.

MP Amunugama said it was not known whether the fraudulently acquired funds had already been spirited away from Sri Lanka.

He said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Maithripala Sirisena were also responsible for the bond scam.

It was Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who had appointed a foreigner as the Central Bank Governor. President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister after removing from office Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne, who shouldn’t have been removed.

The MP said President Maithripala Sirisena had consulted the Supreme Court with a view to staying in power for six years.
