Two stolen vehicles recovered, gang member arrested

The Tihagoda police arrested a member of an organised gang responsible for stealing two vehicles from a well known businessman in the area recently.

The suspect is a former employee of the victim and the two luxury vehicles had been stolen while they were parked in the hotel, where the suspect had worked.

The police said the suspect had been arrested within 48 hours of the incident and at the time of his arrest he was planning to sell the vehicles to a businessman in Colombo.

A special team had been deployed to arrest the remaining suspects, a senior police officer said.

Police took into custody one of the missing vehicles at Baddegama while the suspect was travelling in it and the other was found within near a house at Imaduwa.

The police are trying to ascertain whether the suspect has been involved in other criminal activities as well.

The suspect was due to be produced before Matara Magistrate.
