Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) has recommended that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa be stripped of his civic rights.

Addressing a UNP rally in Morawaka on Saturday, the Prime Minister said two commission reports had been submitted by presidential commissions of inquiry. "One of the reports is on treasury bonds. There is nothing in the bond commission report against the UNP or us. Therefore, I am not going to talk about the bond commission report. The bond commission issue has already been debated not only once but several times in Parliament. We have nothing to hide. We have nothing to sweep

under the carpet. I will never tell the public lies to capture power. The PRECIFAC report recommends that the former President be stripped of his civic rights not for seven years but for life. Some of those in the SLFP now say they need to form an SLFP-led government. I think they will have to find a solution for the issue of the former President’s civic rights."
