Remembering Upali Wijewardene


The 35th anniversary of the disappearance of Mr. Upali Wijewardene, the Founder Chairman of Upali Group of Companies, and the party that accompanied him, falls Tuesday (Feb. 13).

The Upali Group, its employees and sales agents countrywide have made elaborate arrangements to commemorate the anniversary with religious ceremonies such as Bodhi Poojas, Alms Givings, Pahan Poojas and Blood Donation Campaigns.

A special Bodhi Pooja will be held at the Kelani Rajamaha Viharaya at 6 p.m. with the blessings of its Chief Incumbent Ven. Prof. Kollupitiye

Mahinda Sangarkkitha. On February 13, a blood donation campaign will take place from 8.30 am at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya organised by employees of the Upali Group of Companies.

Holy Mass will be held at Mattakkuliya Chapel at 9.30 am in the morning.

Offering of Buddha pooja for Daathumandiraya.

Besides arrangements have been made to offer alms to the Maha Sangha at Kelani Rajamaha Viharaya and scholarships to ten needy children from the Helena Wijewardane Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya.

A special pooja will also be held at the Sri Rajopawanaramaya Temple, Getambe with the participation of the Maha Sangha at 10.30 am. This is organised by the Kandos factory employees.

Alms Giving to the inmates of the Home for the Elders at Mulgampola, Kandy. and a Bodhipooja Pinkama at 7.00 pm at the factory premises.

Bodhi and Pahan Pooja will be held at Vidya Niketha Piriven Viharaya, Sapugoda, Kamburupitiya.

The employees of Upali Consumer Products have arranged an Alms Giving – Lunch for the ‘Children’s Home’ at Ja-Ela.

8.30 am Blood Donation Camp at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, organized by the employees of Upali Group of Companies.

10.00 pm Offering of Buddha pooja at the ‘Dathumandiraya’

10.30 am - Serve tea for the Blood Donation team & Directors & Employees of Upali Group of Companies who will be present at that time.

11.00 am - Scholarships to ten needy children from Helena Wijewardane Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya.
