SB addressing the independance day event at Hewaheta

The British learned the vernacular of Sri Lanka to spread seeds of discontent among various ethnicities that had hitherto lived harmoniously in the country, Minister of Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage, S. B. Dissanayake said yesterday at an event to celebrate the Independence Day at Hewaheta.

There were yet 96 tanks in the Kandyan district that had been destroyed by the British colonists, he added asserting that the only kingdom that the British Empire could not defeat in battle was the Kandyan Kingdom.

"The British had to resort to underhand methods to win. They tricked the king into becoming an alcoholic and after they took over, the British destroyed the Kandyan rural economy. A number of villages were destroyed and there are still 96 tanks in the Kandyan district that had been destroyed by the British colonists. I will rehabilitate them all," he said.

Dissanayake added that despite all those attempts Sri Lanka had survived and was strong enough to defeat the world’s number one terrorist organization, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). "The world believed that it was impossible to defeat a guerrilla movement like the LTTE but we proved them wrong. This is because we still have a strong value system that can’t be destroyed," he said.
