Governor’s wisecrack

Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy once again demonstrated his knack for wisecrack at a media briefing last Thursday.

When a journalist, pointing out that four days had elapsed since the conclusion of the local government elections but the government had failed to dispel political uncertainty, sought his opinion on the situation, a smiling Governor quipped: I’m nearly 68-years-old now. When you come to my age, you’ll realise that four days isn’t a long time.’

All those present burst into peals of laughter and even the journalist who posed the query looked amused.

The Governor was addressing the media to announce the Bank’s latest Monetary Policy Review.
