New Delft Jetty declared open


The second stage of Delft Jetty Project, which was successfully completed under the auspices of the Northern Naval Command was declared open by Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jayantha de Silva and the District Secretary of Jaffna, N. Vethanayahan on Feb. 21.

The construction work of stage II commenced after the successful completion of the stage I and the Navy undertook the entire construction project by providing manpower and transporting building materials from the KKS harbour to the Delft Island. The funds for the project were provided by the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs through the District Secretary, Jaffna.

With the completion of this jetty, it will have a depth of over two metres allowing fishing trawlers, sea ambulances and other passenger ferries to be secured alongside safely.
