Dhawan half-century helps India beat Bangladesh

Opener Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 43 ball 55 to help India to chase a target of 140 runs in the tri-nation Nidhas Trophy tournament match against Bangladesh at R. Premadasa Stadium last night.

Fast bowler Vijay Shankar, however, was named Man of the Match after finishing with two 32. The 27-year-old was unlucky as three catches were put down off his bowling.

After being put into bat, Bangladesh posted 139 for eight with Liton Das, who was dropped twice on six and eight, top scoring with 34 runs. Sabbir Rahman chipped in with 30 runs, but the below par score was never going to test the strong Indian batting unit.

Brief Scores:

Bangladesh 139 for eight in 20 overs (Liton Das 34, Sabbir Rahman 30, Jaydev Unadkat 3/38, Vijay Shankar 2/32)

India 140 for four in 18.4 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 55, Suresh Raina 28, Manish Pandey 27 not out, Rubel Hossain 2/24)

Dhawan and Suresh Raina were involved in a 68 run stand off 54 deliveries for the third wicket to lay the foundation for India’s innings.

Rubel Hossain was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh finishing with two for 24.
