Tellippalai Base Hospital strengthened with medical equipment worth Rs.70 Million



Under the reconciliation intervention programme of the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, the Tellippalai Base Hospital in Jaffna District, was provided with modern medical equipment to the value of Rs.70 Million recently.


Secretary , Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation ( MoNIR ) V.Sivagnanasothy and Jaffna District Secretary N.Vethanayahan handed over the medical equipment to the hospital. Director Dr.Thivarhar, medical specialists and consultants including nursing staff participated in the handing over ceremony.


Sivagnanasothy said that the base hospitals surgery , maternal , health , baby care , cancer and anesthesia units were strengthened. "This will not only benefit Jaffna district but the entire Northern Province. A large number of patients go to Southern private hospitals and neighboring countries such as India to undertake surgery, testing and medical treatment. However, the low income groups who are below the poverty line experience difficulties due to affordability . Reconciliation initiatives on capacity building of the hospital will significantly contribute to improve access to quality health services free of charge."


Under the MoNIR initiative medical equipment such as video Laparoscopy, Ultra Sound Scanner, Colonoscopy, hysteroscopy, high pressure stream sterilizer, electro surgical and patient warming, patient monitor, 630 ATYS system, incubator, warmer, intrusion pump , plus oxymeter , 300 KVA generator had been provided to the Tellippalai base hospital, he noted adding . " This intervention also helps to accelerate resettlement on a fast track basis."


Sivagnanasothy said that the MoNIR had also supported the construction of cancer homes in Tellippalai, which would enable cancer patients in the Northern Province to obtain residential treatment.
