Police had commenced investigations into an attack on a Muslim owned restaurant in Anamaduwa yesterday early morning, the Police Media Unit said. It is suspected that the attack was racially motivated.

Anamaduwa Police are conducting investigations. State Minister Palitha Range Bandara, who was at the scene told The Island that the attack had been carried out around 2.00 a.m. yesterday and that assailants traveling on four motorcycles had thrown a petrol bomb at the establishment.

Minister Bandara said: "Luckily, there was no one when the attack took place. However, there is CCTV footage and I believe that they can be identified with the help of the number plates of the vehicles. I will personally ensure that this shop is rebuilt."

He said a large number of residents, including Buddhist monks, police and local councillors, elected to the Anamaduwa Pradesheeya sabha had gathered at the site in solidarity. "Around 250 people are voluntarily taking part in the rebuilding process," he said.
