Issuance of LG polls gazette may take longer

By Ranil Dharmasena

A senior spokesman for the Government Printer yesterday said that it would take some more time to print the gazette notification announcing the names of those elected to local government bodies.

He said there were 8,600 members representing 340 local bodies to be gazetted and more time would be required for proof reading.

The proofs of documents containing the names of the members had been sent to the Elections Commission for perusal and after the Commissions attended to the corrections if any, the gazette go into print, he said.

The tenure of office of the elected local government members will be effective from March 20.
