Lankan dies on board aircraft

A Sri Lankan businessman domiciled in Melbourne returning to the country to attend a wedding died on board an aircraft due to cardiac arrest.

The deceased was U.A. Jayatissa Gunaratna (66) a father of one from Gurudeniya.

The victim didn’t return from the toilet and his wife alerted the airline staff. The cabin crew forced open the door as there was no response from him to their calls. He was found dead.

The cabin members were unable to take his body out of the toilet and had to wait until the aircraft landed at the BIA to seek assistance of the ground staff.

Dr. Mamnintha de Silva Asst Judicial Medical Officer of the Negombo Hospital returned a verdict of a cardiac arrest as the cause of his death.
