Sri Lanka to recruit new spin bowling coach

Sri Lanka Cricket is set to recruit a new Spin Bowling Coach for the national cricket team on the request of Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

SLC had advertised the post and are expected to shortlist the applicants by next week. The new Spin Bowling Coach will take over duties ahead of the tour of West Indies.

Sunday Island learns that SLC is looking for coaches outside Sri Lanka as well for the post. Piyal Wijetunga, the former St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota cricketer functioned as the Spin Bowling Coach.

Under Hathurusingha the coaching staff has seen major changes with former Test cricketers Tilan Samaraweera and Rumesh Rathnayake taking over as Batting and Bowling coaches respectively. Manoj Abeywickrama functions as the Fielding Coach. Sri Lanka will have a new Team Manager as well after the West Indies tour as Asanka Gurusinha is expected to be promoted as High Performance Manager as Britisher Simon Willis will leave the position in June.
