Promising top order batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama’s stunning 130 off 118 deliveries helped Galle end Colombo’s unbeaten run in the ongoing Inter-Provincial one-day tournament at RPS yesterday. Galle had won both their opening fixtures of the competition, but Samarawickrama’s onslaught saw them slump for the first time to a massive 147 run loss.

Samarawickrama’s 130 contained 11 fours and four sixes. He put on 129 runs for the second wicket with Ramith Rambukwella, who has been in the news for many an off the field incidents in recent times. Rambukwella slammed 87 off 79 deliveries with six fours and six sixes.

Samarawickrama’s effort ended when he was stumped by Test captain Dinesh Chandimal off the bowling of Lakshan Sandakan. The left-arm wrist spinner was the most successful bowler picking up three wickets.

Galle piled up a massive 347 for seven in their 50 overs. Colombo got off to a good start but succumbed to scoreboard pressure. Lahiru Thirimanne and Shehan Jayasuriya added 127 runs for the second wicket in 115 balls. Jayasuriya top scored with 70 runs while Thirimanne chipped in with 48 runs. None of the other batsmen got going as Colombo were bowled out for 200 runs in 42.4 overs. Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara picked up four wickets. Galle, now, lead the points table.

Meanwhile the fixture between Kandy and Dambulla was a low scoring affair. Kandy were shot out for 127 in 29.1 overs and Dambulla chased down the target after a bit of a struggle. They won with plenty of overs to spare, but in the process lost five wickets. Jeffrey Vandersay was the hero for Dambulla picking up four wickets.

Kandy are last in the points table with four points and one win. Dambulla are just ahead of them also with one win but have five points
