The government has decided to appoint former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and six UNP backbenchers as ministers.

A senior UNP Minister told The Island that Ravi Karunanayake, who lost his cabinet portfolio due to his alleged involvement in the bond scam, would be reappointed a cabinet minister.

The minister said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had asked Attorney General if there were charges against Karunanayake to file action against the latter within two months.

He said according to the AGs department, the two month period would lapse on June 15 and there was no credible reason to deny Karunanayake a Cabinet portfolio, he said.

Wickremesinghe is scheduled to embark on a private overseas tour and upon his return, the new Ministers and Deputy Ministers would be appointed, the minister said.
